We have stayed on the Gulf of Thailand Coast at Hua Hin in a spectacular resort - Anantara Hua Hin Spa Resort. With an adults only infinity pool (perfect) and spa treatments to die for you could feel your care’s melting away.  Nestled in the jungle with its own beach and fabulous restaurants , Anantara feels like its miles from civilisation.

Phuket, on the Andaman Coast of Thailand is far more commercialised. It is one of the top Thai destinations for tourists from all over the globe. You can still find isolated pockets of tranquillity in amongst all the madness. Take the Evason Six Senses  Spa in Phuket. A stunning property that can be booked at bargain prices at the moment due to the fact it is due a major overhaul. Don’t let this put you off, it is still a 5 star resort with a beautiful beach and their own private island, accessible only by long boat. Booking a Sala on the beach is a must.  High on stilts overlooking your own bit of beach it is hard not to relax.  Back on the mainland there are 5 restaurants to choose from, serving delicious Thai fare.

Thai food is a revelation in itself. The different areas have their own take on cultural dishes. Some can be incredibly spicy as the Thais have a fondness for chilli’s that can take the Western palette by surprise.  Try Tom Yum Goom, a spicy prawn soup with ginger, lemongrass and coriander. Very refreshing to say the least. There are variations on every dish depending on the region you visit. So why not compare them all. The market stalls in Thailand are a foodies paradise. Your senses are bombarded by sights and smells that you would never see at home. Local goods are sold here, and the Thais gentle nature for bartering puts the Arabs to shame. They show you a figure on a calculator, you put in yours and carry on till both are satisfied....painless.

The different tours on offer take in a lot of what Thailand can offer the visiting tourist. Trips
to James Bond Island (Phi Phi Ley), elephant watching or gazing in wonder at the local temples. There is so much to see and do that you would find it hard to be bored. However if relaxation is your thing then the Thai people take this to a whole new level. It is their quiet grace that can disarm even the most jaded of personalities. If you leave Thailand without a backward glance then you have no soul, for here is truly a small piece of heaven on earth.
