The Colosseum - RomeA weekend in the Eternal City is a must for any seasoned traveller. Where else can you stroll the avenues of the mighty Caesar’s? History greets you on every turn of the cobbled streets, and breathtaking Palazzo’s open up before your eyes.

Rome is an easy city to navigate on foot. As long as you realise that the pedestrian is secondary to the motorist. Step onto the roads at your peril!

Try to avoid Rome in the summer months when it becomes stiflingly hot. Instead go in early spring or autumn when the temperatures are at a more tolerable level.

There are many great Hotels in the city but the tariffs can be quite high especially 4* and The Trevi fountain - Romeabove. Eating out also comes at a premium depending on the location. One of the highlights for me was the La Terrazza restaurant in the boutique Hotel Eden.

With a stunning rooftop setting it offers views of Rome that are hard to beat. Chef Adriano Cavgnini offers modern Meditteranean fare that is exquisite. If weather permits a cocktail on the outdoor terrace is a must.

Rome is a city that you could return to again and again and still not explore its full potential. From the stunning Vatican City then on to the Colosseum, Rome snatches your breath at every corner.
