Norton Park Hotel WinchesterHow do you merge old with new, the modern with the historic?

The Q Hotel chain have done exactly that at Norton Park in Hampshire. Just a stone’s throw from Winchester, Norton Park is only minutes from the A34 with easy access to the M3, M4 and M27 motorways, so extremely accessible from whichever direction you are coming.

As you approach the hotel from the sweeping driveway, the Manor House stands imposingly on the left whilst the contemporary new addition greets you as you enter the reception. Bright and airy, you are greeted warmly by the staff who are more than happy to show you around or help you if you seem lost.

Norton Park Hampshire Tourist GuideOur room was situated in the Manor House which looked out over the delightful lake and the walled gardens. The entrance hall to the Manor gave way to the grand sweeping staircase which led us to our room. Historic the house may be, but the room most definitely was not. Modern fixtures and furnishings, with all amenities one would expect of a luxury hotel to make your stay a comfortable one. Leaving the room was hard, but exploring the idyllic surroundings is a must. Set in 54 acres or peaceful grounds this is a nature lovers dream, the lake is brimming with wildlife and the woods teeming with birds. We, however, decided on less energetic indoor pursuits! The bar and lounge areas are very comfortable and stylish with lots of cosy nooks if you feel like being a bit more private. Afternoon tea and coffee are served at your table or why not indulge with a bottle of fine champagne?

Norton Park Pool Tourist Information HampshireWe went off to the Spa and indoor pool area. This is gorgeous with a fantastic skylight letting in the sunshine as you relax on the heated beds or on a lounger. The sauna is also great for unwinding, or why not take advantage of the Spa and book yourself a treatment or two! The treatments are certainly affordable enough to really let yourself indulge.
Our evening started in the bar with a pre-dinner drink before moving on to ‘Scene’ Restaurant. A fine choice in the menu made choosing difficult. Poussin for me and pan fried Salmon for my wife were well executed and delicious. Obviously leaving room for dessert was a no brainer and crème brulee was chosen (with the customary two spoons). We finished with coffee in the lounge bar and went to our room satisfied. As an added luxury we chose breakfast in bed for the morning and it was a real treat! Fresh fruit, pastries, yoghurt, toast and coffee arrived promptly at the time requested. Our time to leave was sadly approaching and if we had time the places to visit are all within easy distance of the hotel. So whether you’re looking for a base to explore the surrounding areas like Portsmouth Historical Dockyard or Marwell Wildlife Park or just a relaxing overnight stay, then Norton Park is a must.
