Visiting Las Vegas was once looked upon as the Mecca for gamblers and sinners alike. Not anymore, Las Vegas is fast establishing itself as one of the great gourmet destinations in the world. Chefs and their restaurants vie with each other for Culinary supremacy along the Vegas Strip! With each hotel trying to out do the other it should come as no surprise that their dining establishments should be trying to do the same. In the heart of The Wynn lies Okada one of the best Japanese restaurants I have had the pleasure to dine in. Surrounded by towering waterfalls and pine trees you could almost imagine yourself in feudal Japan..almost. The place itself is split into 3. The traditional Sashimi counter, a Hibachi barbecue area and the Restaurant. The waiter was more than happy to guide us through the menu and helped us with many a recommendation including which Sake was best suited to our choices. One of the highlights for me was the soft shell crab rolls. My wife loved the Yellow Tail tuna sashimi with jalapeno and garlic chips. The bento box was superb and one can only wonder at how fish could arrive this fresh in the desert. We ate our dinner looking out over the lake as the waterfall cascaded over the rocks and it was hard to believe that we were in Las Vegas. But that is the beauty of this city so much of it is fantasy it really is hard to step back into reality. |
