2009 is Barbados’ Year of the Gourmet and, with the Barbados Gourmet Card, visitors can receive 25 per cent off their food bill at a range of restaurants.

BarbadosIf warm waters lapping white sands sound like just the thing to banish those winter chills, then Barbados is perfect. Why Barbados? With 2009 being the Year of the Gourmet, visitors can get more for their money with 25 per cent off their food bill at a range of restaurants, including Aqua, Elbow Room, Apsara, Daphne’s, Luigi’s, Wytukai, Scarlet, Il Tempio, Brown Sugar, Josef’s and Careenage. These discounts are arranged by Barbados Tourism to support the Year of the Gourmet and are available to visitors travelling between 15 April and 30 June or 1 September to the 4 December 2009 if booked by 28 February.

Daphne’s is the sister restaurant to the famous Daphne’s of Chelsea, London, and one of the top restaurants in Barbados. With a contemporary Italian menu and the unique talents of chef Marco Festini and manager Marco Pavone, it’ll be a night (or nights if you go back for more) to remember.

However, if traditional is not what you are looking for, then The Elbow Room offers a fun and unique dining experience at affordable prices. A stone heated to 700 degrees farenheit arrives at your table with a choice of meats and vegetables to bring out the chef in all of us.

If your idea of a night out involves contemporary dining in an upmarket setting the Scarlet is perfect. Alive with energy and trendy décor, this London-style bistro is upmarket, trendy and, above all, affordable.

Barbados Tourism is also offering a VIP card to visitors during 2009, allowing them the opportunity to obtain buy one get one free discounts on a range of top attractions and tours, including Tiami Catamaran Cruises, Atlantic Submarines and the Mount Gay Rum tour. So feel the deck beneath your feet and the sound of wind catching in the sails on your Tiami cruise, plunge beneath the depths on an underwater voyage in an Atlantic submarine, or forget your worries with a tipple of rum.

Barbados is more than just sun and sand. Visit Bridgetown for some more cultural delights such as National Heroes Square or the Kensington Oval, which played host to the 2007 Cricket World Cup. Take to the sea for some snorkelling, diving and sailing, or keep your feet on dry land and try your hand at golf and cricket, two of Barbados’ most popular sports.

So if good food at affordable prices and an idyllic beach setting then 2009 is the year for you. So enjoy the Year of the Gourmet, on one of our Barbados holidays. For details of how to book visit the Kuoni Travel website.
